Frequently Asked Questions

(FAQ)

Q. What are the benefits to knowing my enneagram type?

The Enneagram is a psychological tool that helps point you in the direction of your truest, most authentic self. Knowing your specific Type gives you the roadmap you’ll need to get there. It gives you a way to visualize yourself in personality, allowing you to see your patterned behaviors and the motivations behind them. Discerning your Type is the first step in the Enneagram process. Once you know your Type, you can begin to proactively use the Enneagram to uncover the mental traps, blindspots, and unconscious patterns that are keeping you stuck in personality. The Enneagram gives you the tools to be the best version of yourself.

Q. Does my Enneagram Type ever change?

I am under the belief that we are born our specific Enneagram Type and that it cannot change. However, you might test differently at certain times depending on the circumstances of your life and how they affect you. Because of this, I do not recommend any of the online Enneagram tests, but find my Typing interviews to be the most accurate. The best way to discover your Type is to look at the core motivations, desires, and fears through reading about all of the Types, or you can schedule a Typing interview with me today.

Q. How is the Enneagram different from other personality tests (myers-briggs etc)?

Unlike other personality tests, the Enneagram gives us a beginning and not an end. Rather than put us in a personality box (or diagnosis), it reveals what box we are living in and gives us the roadmap to get out of that box. No other personality tool reveals a growth path the way the Enneagram does.

Q. What are subtypes, Wings, and arrows?

Subtypes are the combination of your Type and dominant survival instinct (self-preservation, social, or one to one/sexual). There are twenty-seven different Subtypes and fifty-four different Subtype sequences. This is how two people, who are the same Type, can look very different from one another.

Your dominant Type is the result of the tension between the two numbers adjacent to it, also known as Wings. In my self-development practice, I recommend integrating aspects of both of your Wings, because everyone needs two wings to fly.

Arrow lines are the connection points indicated by the Enneagram diagram. They are direct paths to psychological and spiritual growth within your Type. The Arrow move ahead represents key challenges to strive for in order to be more whole, and the Arrow move behind represents issues from the past that were disowned and need to be re-integrated in order to move forward.

My Typing interviews include finding out your Type, dominant Subtype, and Subtype sequence. My individual coaching sessions cover the specific paths of growth for each Type, including Wings and Arrow work.

Q. Are certain types more compatible than others?

The health of our relationships, both personally and professionally, depend on the level of awareness one has about oneself. Self-observation is the key to Enneagram growth work. If two people are equally open to learning about themselves, any relationship can be successful. When we know ourselves better, we can show up for others in the best way possible. My couples coaching sessions offer tools, through the framework of the Enneagram, that specifically strengthen the relationships that are most important to you.
